The Youth Director is an extension of the Pastor’s office and under the Pastor’s supervision to help the youth of Christ Lutheran to growth in faith and relationship to Jesus Christ; to communicate God’s word; to provide opportunities for youth to discover ways to apply Christian values to their daily lives; to encourage active participation within the church; to develop relationships and implement programs that address the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social needs of youth, thereby ministering to the whole person.

Teach and reinforce Jesus Christ as the only and necessary means to salvation for all people, the historical consensus of traditional interpretations of the Bible in all matters of eternal salvation, the Lutheran perspective as supervised by the Pastor, the importance of obedience to the will of God, and the solution to sin of repentance and forgiveness.

  • Work with the Pastor and the Youth Committee to realize a vision for youth ministry.
  • Recruit, train, inspire and lead youth and young adults towards the vision and mission of the church and youth ministry.
  • Create and run the youth program for grades 1st – 12th, and Wednesday night youth program for grades 7th – 12th.
  • Perpetuate existing, establish evangelism programs deemed faithful to the mission and vision of the church and youth ministry.
  • Coordinate fund raising events to provide for individual youth accounts as well as the Youth Fund.
  • Write and edit monthly Youth page for the Newsletter and youth related materials and mailings, coordinating production with the church business administrator.
  • Partner with Pastor on the Confirmation program and lead the Youth Program.
  • Maintain good communication and teamwork with the church.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility and operate within the confines of the church budget.
  • Prepare written reports for the congregational annual meeting.
  • Serve as staff liaison of the Christian Education Committee/Youth Committee
  • Attend various meetings (e.g. staff meetings, council meetings) and prepare reports as deemed necessary.
  • Coordinate Friends Away College visits.
  • Assist with parish duties as needed, and all other duties as assigned.
  • Administrate Vacation Bible School, summer camping programs, and Intro to Youth Program.
  • Opportunities with preaching and other Sunday morning responsibilities, as needed.

Desired skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of modern teen culture and major issues facing youth.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with youth, adults and other church staff; good speaking skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, approachable.
  • Create, evaluates, develop, and monitors all curriculum and activities for children birth to grade 12.

Qualifications:

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Must be willing to become a member of Christ Lutheran Church
  • Must pass a background check
  • College degree preferred
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Good driving record; qualified to drive groups of youth
  • Available Wednesdays, Sundays, Christian holidays, some weekends and possible school events.
